If you’re keen to experience authentic culture and heritage in Ghana, why don’t you join us in July, as we embark on the Black Heritage tour to Elmina to witness the Homecoming edition of the annual remembrance festival of the people of Elmina known as the Edina Bakatue. This is a historical event with origins dating back to the 18th century.
There will be a royal procession made up of gorgeously dressed chiefs and stool bearers, some of them riding in beautifully decorated palanquin. Fetish Priests and Priestesses, Herbalist, Supis, Asafohenfo and concerned citizens. The King of the traditional area appears last in the procession dressed in white cloth with “Nyinya Necklace“, He wears a straw hat (Birifikyew) and hold his scepter all of which are symbolic of his high place and command. The attire sets him apart from all the other chiefs who wear go ld ornaments.
You can’t miss this awesome and wonderful cultural and heritage event.
Ghanaian festivals are a colorful and a vibrant part of the culture. Each year festivals and durbars are held in various parts of the country to celebrate the heritage of the people.
Festivals in Ghana are celebrated for many reasons pertaining to a particular tribe or culture, usually having backgrounds relating to an occurrence in the history of that culture.
This is a 7 days and 6 nights trip packed with adventure and excitement. Our journey will begin in Accra on your day of arrival in Ghana. We travel to the number one historical destination in Ghana Elmina, which is in the Central Region of Ghana early the next day where we will be based for the next 5 days.

Arrive in Ghana, check in to your hotel and spend the night in Accra.Day 2

Travel to Elmina
Shortly after breakfast we will depart Accra and head into the Central Region of Ghana. Our destination will be in Elmina. Today will be awesome because we will witness a lot of culture and tradition of Elmina, Ghana's top historical town. In the evening we will have dinner and based on how we feeling we will witness night life in Elmina.Day 3

Visit Assin Manso
We will visit Assin Manso Slave Market today. This is the final and the last point of the slaves where they had their last bath before they travel through the virgin forest for 3 weeks to the castles and are shipped to the unknown world. After the tour we will proceed to Cape Coast and have lunch. We will drive back to Elmina to witness other activities ongoing related to the festival.Day 4

Explore Kakum Rainforest and Elmina
We will go on the next step of our journey. Today we will visit the Kakum National Park, one of the few remaining pristine rain forest in Ghana . We will have a canopy walk and after the tour at the rainforest we will head to Elmina. In Elmina we will visit the Elmina Castle, the oldest European building in existence below the Sahara, the fort Jago, and the salt mining village.Day 5

Community homes visit
Today we will go to the famous Elmina fish and witness first hand how fish has been sold here for centuries past and also we will do some shopping for our culinary experience later in the day. From the fish market we will visit homes in the communities to see the way of life of the people and have a deeper insight on the everyday life of the local people.Day 6

Festival Activities
There will be grand durbar to climax the celebration of the year’s Bakatue Festival. A procession begins from the Omanhen’s palace to the forecourt of the Elmina Castle. The procession is led by the Asafo companies and stool bearers. There is a lot of pump and pageantry by the chief’s, each exhibiting their skill in dance. The rhythmic hand gestures go with the loud beating of royal drums and firing of muskets it is indeed a sight to behold.Day 7
